Business-to-Business Mailing

B2B direct mail: postcards to the businesses that buy what you sell

Postcards to businesses selected by type, using Standard Industrial Classification codes, and narrowed by number of employees, annual sales revenue or both, anywhere in the continental United States.

Business mail starts with the kind of business. The Standard Industrial Classification system gives every type of business a four-digit code, from dentists’ offices to trucking companies to restaurants, and a business list can be pulled for exactly the codes that buy from you. A commercial cleaner chooses medical and professional offices; a uniform supplier, auto repair shops and restaurants; a payroll firm, every business type within a size band.

Then the list narrows by size: the number of employees, the annual sales revenue, or both. Size is what separates a prospect from a near miss, since a ten-person office and a two-hundred-person one buy differently and from different people. We count the businesses that match in your area, quote the mailing, and print the cards to them.

What is an SIC code?

A four-digit number that classifies a business by what it does, from the Standard Industrial Classification system the federal government introduced in the 1930s. Federal statistics moved to the newer NAICS codes in 1997, but SIC is still the common language of business mailing lists, because it is simple and nearly every compiled business record carries one. The first two digits name the broad group, such as health services; all four name the kind of business, such as dentists’ offices.

Does direct mail work for B2B?

A postcard reaches a business in a way a message to a general inbox does not: it is picked up, sorted and handed to someone. It works best with a narrow selection and a specific offer, such as a free first service, a sample or a consultation, something that gives the front desk a reason to pass it to the person who decides. It works worst when every business in a city gets a card about everything.

Who should a business postcard be addressed to?

To a person when the list carries one, and otherwise to a title such as Office Manager or Owner. A title on the address line still routes the card to the right desk, and it keeps working after the person in the job has changed.

B2B Mailing: questions people ask

How do I target businesses with direct mail?

Choose the business types that buy from you by SIC code, then narrow them by number of employees or annual sales revenue. We count the matching businesses in your area and quote a postcard mailing to them.

Can I mail only businesses of a certain size?

Yes. Business selections can be limited by number of employees, by annual sales revenue or by both, so the card reaches firms large enough to need you and small enough to decide quickly.

Can you mail to businesses nationwide?

Anywhere in the continental United States: one ZIP code, a metro, a state or every state at once. Each area’s mail goes through whichever of our three print partners covers it.

What is the difference between SIC and NAICS codes?

Both classify businesses by what they do. NAICS replaced SIC in federal statistics in 1997 and uses six digits; SIC uses four and remains the usual standard on business mailing lists. Tell us the kind of business you sell to and we find the codes.
